Sutorbilt Legend Rotary PD Blower Design Features

Sutorbilt Legend Rotary Positive Displacement Blowers are known for their high quality and dependability to last and last in even the most extreme conditions and applications. Built under rigid ISO 9001:2000 quality standards and individually tested to meet rigorous performance specifications, the Sutorbilt Legend Series is designed to provide a consistent output. Because of the arduous performance analysis and resilient design, many OEMs utilize the Sutorbilt Legend PD Blower for a wide range of applications. So, what makes the Sutorbilt Legend so “legendary”? Below, we break down the internals of the Sutorbilt blower parts:

1. The Sutorbilt blower is built with a resilient, high-strength impeller case formed from one piece of iron. The impeller case features deep ribs and oversized dowel pins to precisely mount and align head plates. This design results in a stable, vibration-free operation and reduced noise.

2. The head plates are also machined from cast iron and machined to be ground from the interior surface and bearing fits are fabricated into head plates for exact bearing positioning. This design ensures that the blower has fixed clearances through all temperature ranges and operating conditions.

3. The impellers are dynamically balanced for smooth operation and machined from cast iron permanently fastened to steel shafts. This provides the strength and inelasticity the Sutorbilt rotary positive blower needs to handle constant loads at a continued high performance. This also eliminates the possibility of deflection.

4. Optimal anti-friction bearings are used to provide longer PD blower life and load capacity.

5. The 3-6 inch R versions feature easy teardown construction with grip rings that expand against the bore and compress on the shaft for a perfect fit. The 1, 7 and 8 inch P versions feature precise alloy steel timing gears that are permanently pinned to the shafts. This design enables the Sutorbilt blower to operate at maximum performance with non-slip timing even under the harshest conditions.

6. High-temperature Viton® oil seals maximize seal life in continued strenuous conditions to provide leak-free operation.

7. Flex-Mount™ feet are accurately fabricated to match the footprints of many competitive units. 3–6" R-version blowers have universal feet, while the Flex-Mount™ design on 2, 7 and 8" blowers is adaptable to either vertical or horizontal installation.

8. Gear end bearings and timing gears are splash lubricated and drive end bearings are grease lubricated through fittings. The blower also has lip-type seals to prevent oil and grease from entering the impeller chamber. Lastly, a non-asbestos graphite gasketed, oil-tight housing encloses the timing gears. All of these components are assured at all operating conditions with minimal maintenance required.

9. The high strength steel drive shaft provides greater blower installation flexibility and resilience.

How the Sutorbilt Legend Rotary PD Blower Works

The two figure-eight shaped impellers installed in the housing turn in opposite directions to provide a constant transferring of air or gas from inlet to discharge. This constant volume of air is trapped between the two impellers and then transferred around the cylinder to the discharge port.
