What is Fracking?

According to Investopedia, Fracking (hydraulic fracturing) is defined as the process of extracting natural gas or oil by creating fractures in shale rocks and rock formations. These fractures are usually created by blasting or injecting a mixture of fluids and frac sand into cracks to force them further open. This enables more natural gas or oil to flow out of the larger fissure and into a wellbore from where it can be extracted.

Since the dawn of hydraulic fracturing, an estimated one million wells have been processed with the fracking method. Each well that is fractured is unique teaching the oil and gas industry best practices to minimize environmental and societal impacts.

Hydraulic Fracking will enable us to tap into shale gas reserves or “ bridge fuel” to help the United States transition from coal to renewable sources.
